On April 24th, I had the joy and privilege of attending the opening of the second visual art senior exhibition. This exhibition showcased the works of Nyela Dixon, Autumn Duncan, Kristian Pittman, Abbey Dickey, Harper Martin, and Caroline Miller, all displayed in the Vulcan Minerals Gallery. Beforehand, the lobby was full of people talking and waiting to enter the gallery and appreciate these talented artists’ works. From the artists’ families, a beautiful reception was organized and many brought their snacks into the gallery while they admired the art.

There was an incredible collection of various artistic mediums, ranging from classic paintings to adorable creatures made from all kinds of materials. This exhibition was able to showcase not only the pure creativity and commitment to the visual arts, but also the diversity amongst the creators themselves and what mediums they were drawn to as individual artists. Each piece contained a multitude of personality and ingenuity that created a wonderful environment to be in.

For the remainder of the school year, this exhibition will be up in the gallery for everybody to see. I’d highly recommend going to see it before that group of seniors depart ASFA and take their work with them. It’s always important to support our fellow artists in whatever way possible. Who knows, maybe their work will inspire you to make something yourself.

Alex's Reviews & Recs has been a periodic column penned by cultural maven Alex Viles (CW '26), covering anything and everything in the literary world, past or present, that he finds worthy of a read. Always eclectic, and a little bit random, like any good mixtape.
